"Light, stars and silent rhythms weaving the spirit of Christmas into a warm urban experience."

Simfonia d’Estels is an immersive light installation that transforms Plaça de Sant Jaume into a space for warm embrace during the Christmas period. The work proposes a contemporary reinterpretation of Christmas symbolism through light, rhythm, and architectural dialogue.

The piece is built around two universal symbols — stars and gold — used not as decoration but as a visual language. Projected simultaneously onto the façades of the City Hall and the Government Palace in Barcelona, the installation acts as a shared skin that reveals and enhances architectural details, establishing a subtle dialogue between celestial imagery and the details of the buildings.

At the core of the composition are 25 stars, referencing the Advent calendar. Each star pulses with its own rhythm until they gradually align in a common cadence. This movement from apparent disorder to synchrony reflects natural and cosmic cycles, a recurring thematic concern in the studio’s practice. Their organic distribution across both façades creates a balanced tension between structure and fluidity.

The visual system is organised in layers: a shifting cosmic background; an intermediate field where the stars interact; and a foreground that gently illuminates architectural elements and integrates the existing floral decorations. Sound is translated into light, generating a silent symphony of pulses and variations that surrounds the viewer without demanding attention.

The chromatic palette is dominated by warm golden tones, evoking both sacred art traditions — gilded altarpieces, gold leaf, Klimt’s ornamental surfaces — and the ephemeral glow of festive materials that shimmer as they catch the light. On selected dates, subtle chromatic shifts mark moments of heightened significance within the Christmas calendar.

Technically precise yet deliberately restrained, the projection uses high-resolution, large-scale light to create a calm, contemplative environment rather than a display of visual excess. Simfonia d’Estels invites visitors to experience Christmas through a contemporary, symbolic lens — one that privileges atmosphere, rhythm, and collective immersion over narrative or spectacle.
